We are attempting to teach our son, Danny, three languages and I will try to observe carefully his language learning process. So far, at 13 months of age, he is already gaining biliteracy skills. His greatest accomplishment in this regard is in page turning–he now knows (with a little encouragement and assistance) how, and whether, to turn the pages of a book from left to right, if the book is in English, or right to left, if the book is in Japanese! Of course he absolutely loves his books and refuses to put them down.

Next week I’ll be attending the International Association of Applied Linguistics conference (AILA) in Madison, Wisconsin and, at the end of the week, the National Down Syndrome Congress conference in Anaheim. Feel free to get in touch if you’ll be attending either one.
