You can download a PowerPoint presentation from this page about positive deviance. PD is an approach to social change that involves identification of best practices, sifting through to determine their replicability, and active dissemination to others. Originally designed for health research, I think it’s a good model to try to identify and spread positive educational practices.
And in the meantime Congress is ready to update special education law. Here’s a part of the news release from CNN.com:
“Key areas of agreement as outlined by people close to the negotiations include:
— Giving schools more flexibility to discipline students with disabilities just like other students, once it is clear that a child’s bad behavior is not caused by a disability.”
Is this really a result of disability studies and educational policy?
