The Department of Education at UC Irvine (my main academic department) has proposed a new Ph.D. Program in Education. It has to go through a number of more hurdles before it’s approved by the University of California, but our hope is that the program will be approved to begin in fall 2006. The exciting thing about this for me is that one of the three proposed specializations is in Language, Literacy, and Technology.
I will post updates here as things develop, but I wanted to mention this early on so that those of you who are planning Ph.D. study in the future will keep this possibility in mind.
Indeed Professor Warschauer, I am interested in a Phd program. I wanted to ask you personally, if you did take on Phd programs.
I have something in mind which was stimulated by the book and career of Mrs keiko Hirata. She seems to have great experience world wide and was thinking of combining education technology with an international perspective.
Your thoughts would be welcome.
Nicolas
Dear Prof Warschauer,
The planned PHD program you mentioned sounds interesting and practical. I’m sure that it contains an emphasis on second language acquisition/learning in its main rubric of languague, literacy, and technology. I’ll spread the news to all my students here in Thailand.
Would there be a potential for online particiaption. I am in NY, and have made inquirws at both Fordham and Columbia in this regard.
